Religious Education 2011 - 2012 Calendar
Our Lady of Lourdes Religious Education Program is dedicated to preparing the children in the parish to participate in the community of the Church; to learn the facts of their Religion and put them into practice in their daily lives. It also teaches that we model our lives the way in which Jesus taught us.
Class Session Times:

Grades 1 - 8 & Tutorial, Saturday 9:30 am - 10:30 am

Grades 1 - 4, Tuesday 4:15 - 5:15 pm

Grades 5 - 8, Wednesday 4:15 - 5:15 pm
Length of Program:

Our programs annually run from September through April each term. Reigistration forms are sent out in May each year to children already in our program. All grade level students must re-register each year.
Classroom:
-
Students must bring all required materials to class each session - pen or pencil, notebook (if required), homework assignment and Religion book. All students are expected to demonstrate in respect and actions polite, kind behavior to all persons (adults and peers). In order to maintain the excellent condition of our parish school building, there is to be no gum chewing in the building. No food should be brought into the building at any time.
Dismissal Procedure:

The childen will be dismissed by their teachers at the end of each session. They will wait until each parent has picked up his/her child(ren). If a parent is not on time, the child will be brought to the office until a parent arrives.

If you need, in an emergency, to pick up your child during class time, notice should be given to the office staff who will prepare an early class dismissal form. The parent must come to the office to sign the form. At that time we will send an adult to the classroom to bring the child to the office.
Emergency Closing:

You will receive a phone call from a parent as soon as a decision is made to close the school in an emergency. Notice will also be made on Channel 12 News, News 12 website and on our answering machine.
Homework:
-
Please check your child's textbook and folder (if applicable) each week. Homework pages, as assigned by the Catechist, should be completed by each child.
Sacraments:

Reconciliations: Grade 2 children receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation for the first time in the month of January.

First Eucharist: Grade 2 children receive the Sacrament in the Spring.

Grade 8 children receive the Sacrament in the spring after a two year program.
Attendance and Requirements:

all classes are one hour long and must begin promptly. Parents must have their children attend regularly and on time.
Three excused absences for illness or family emergencies are permitted in a year for grades 1 through 6. In grade 7, because it is part of a 2 year preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation, there are no absences permitted except in cases of illness, injury or other extenuating circumstances. An absence note must be sent in when your child returns to class. Excessive lateness, absences, or early dismissals may result in students being asked to repeat the term.
Remember that YOU are the primary teachers of your children. You set the example for them.
If you pray, they will pray.
If you come to Mass on Sunday and holy days as a family, they will feel like a member of God's Family.
If you are respectful and kind to others, they will treat others in the same way.
Catechists:

Volunteers over the age of 18 are needed to teach a one hour class on a weekly basis. Catechist grade level materials are available to all catechists.

All volunteers over the age of 18 are required to submit to a background check before beginning their service. VIrtus training must also be completed. (See Virtus webpage)
Grade Level Coordinator:

Coordinators are needed to assist, encourage and support other catechists On their grade level and to be the go-between with the catechist and the Religious Education Office.
Class Helpers:

Adults and older children are needed to assist in our tutorial program during class time and to assist in the classroom as needed.
