Soccer The OLL Soccer Program enrolls over 400 children each fall, from ages 4 to 14.
There are 3 different levels to the program.
The "Peewee" level is for 4 year-olds: Runs for an hour each Saturday morning at Malverne High School from early September to early November. Half the time is spent doing basic and fun drills. The balance is spent in small-sided informal games. Boys and girls will play together, but we do split them up for the games based on ability/aggressiveness to keep it fun for everyone.
The next level is "Intramurals", which is for children in Kindergarten and first grade: At this level, we place kids on actual teams and split into boys and girls divisions. Teams practice once a week and then play a game on Sunday mornings behind Malverne High School from early September to early November. Games are played with a goalie and 5 field players aside. We do not keep score and there are no standings.
The top level is "Travel". From 2nd to 8th grade, we enter teams in a CYO league to play against other parishes in Nassau County, including Sacred Heart, Cure of Ars, St. Aidan's, and Holy Spirit, as well as the Long Beach Tri-Parish CYO program. Our home fields are at Malverne High School and Malverne Middle School. Games are played on Saturday and Sunday afternoons from early September until mid-November. In 2nd and 3rd grades, games are played 9 aside on a modified field. In 4th grade, the teams move to the full-size field and play 11 v11. CYO also holds play-offs for grades 4 through 8 at the end of the season. We don't hold try-outs for these teams; we take players on a first-come first serve basis, and are generally able to accommodate everyone who wants to play. All ability levels are welcome. As a CYO program, we emphasize sportsmanship, and we're proud to capture sportsmanship awards in 6 out of the 14 divisions. However, we also aim to be competitive each year, and saw 3 teams crowned as champs last year out of the 8 divisions that had playoffs.
We are always looking for new blood to help run the program and keep it fresh. If you don't know anything about the game, but you have some administrative skills and/or a little free time, we can certainly find something useful for you to do. So don't be shy about volunteering!
