BASKETBALL

Competitive Basketball is open to girls and boys in 3rd thru 8th grades plus high school athletes as long as they do not play on their high school teams.  Eligibility is based on school grade, not age.  Grades 3-5 play with amended rules to encourage learning the sport.  Playoffs occur in grades 6-8 for eligible teams.  Home games and practices are held in Downing Elementary School, Davison Intermediate School, and Herber Middle School.  Home games are on Friday nights and Saturday mornings.  Away games are based on opponent availability.

BASKETBALL CLINIC

The Basketball Clinic is offered to children in grades K thru 2 and is offered on Saturday mornings in March at Herber Middle School.  This is a station-style clinic where children work in small groups and focus on the 3 main fundamentals of basketball...dribbling, passing, and shooting.  Players are organized by school grade and 1 hour sessions per grade.  Drills will be age and skill appropriate with scrimmaging being introduced in the second grade group.  At least 6 volunteers for each grade are requested.

FALL TRACK

Track season runs from early September through November.  We compete in 4 meets against other CYO teams throughout Nassau County, primarily on Saturdays or Sundays.

Practice is 2-3 nights a week at either Malverne High School track from 6:30-7:30 pm or other local tracks.

Registration is open to boys and girls K through 8th Grade.

FLAG FOOTBALL

The CYO Flag Football program is a co-ed non contact football program.  Games are Sundays through the fall at Chaminade High School in Mineola.  Teams are organized into 3/4 grades, 5/6 grades, and 7/8 grades.  Practices are held at Malverne High School or Herber during the week based on the volunteer coach's availability.

INTRAMURAL SOCCER

Intramural soccer is for children in Kindergarten-First Grades and Second-Third Grades.  At this level, we place kids on co-ed teams.  Teams practice once a week based on volunteer coach availability and then play a game on Saturday mornings at Herber Middle School from early September to early November.  Games are played with a goalie and 5 field players aside.  We do not keep score and there are no standings.

INTRAMURAL PEE WEE SOCCER

The "Pee Wee" level of Intramural Soccer is for children in Pre-K.  This program runs for an hour each Saturday morning at Herber Middle School from early September to early November.   This clinic focuses on fun drills to learn soccer basics.  There will be a signup for parent helpers for one of the 8 weeks.

SPRING TRACK

The season normally starts in late March or early April depending on weather.  The season runs until mid June.

We compete in meets throughout Nassau and Suffolk typically every weekend starting in May.  For some weeks, meets can be both Saturdays and Sundays. We also host one meet typically in late May.  The meet times vary but typically the younger group K-3 run 9-noon or so, and 4th-8th normally noon- around 3:30.

In addition to the meets above, we participate in the CYO regional qualifiers (early May) and if the child qualifies they participate in the finals (early to mid June). These meets are typically mid week in the evenings.

Practices are held 1-3 times a week at Malverne High School or another local track. The days are specific to grade and gender.

SWIM TEAM

Our Lady of Lourdes proudly sponsors a competitive swim team that participates in meets against other CYO programs. The season begins in the fall and runs through April. Our coaching staff is committed to creating a positive, team-oriented experience for all swimmers.

Please note that swim instruction is not provided. All new swimmers must be able to swim one length of the pool (25 yards) without assistance. Swimmers are placed into practice groups based on age and ability.

Practices are held on Sunday mornings at either the Freeport Recreation Center or Echo Park Pool:

  • Ages 10 and under: 7:00–8:00 AM

  • Ages 11 and over: 8:00–9:00 AM

Home meets are typically held on Saturday at Hicksville High School. Away meets are usually hosted at the Nassau Aquatic Center or Hofstra University.

Parent volunteers are essential to the success of each meet - particularly as lane timers - so coaches can focus on preparing swimmers for their events. The season concludes with the CYO Championship Meet, usually held on a weekday evening during the first week of April.
