Feast of St. John the Evangelist & Blessing of Wine

ree

On Saturday, December 27, the Church celebrates the Feast of St. John the Evangelist, the beloved disciple of Jesus and the author of the Gospel of John. St. John is the only Apostle believed to have died a natural death, remaining faithful to Christ throughout his long life.

In honor of this feast day, we invite you to join us at the 9:00 AM Mass, where we will celebrate the traditional Blessing of Wine. Parishioners are encouraged to bring a bottle of wine to be blessed.

This beautiful tradition recalls the ancient story of St. John being given poisoned wine, which he blessed and drank without harm. Because of this, St. John is often depicted holding a chalice with a serpent—symbolizing God’s protection and the power of faith.

The blessing of wine is a prayer for health, joy, friendship, and protection, and it reminds us that the joy of Christmas continues throughout the Octave of Christmas.

We hope you will join us for this meaningful celebration.
